Martha Brettschneider provides consulting, writing, editing, and research services to internationally-focused clients, particularly nonprofits involved in economic development. She has recently expanded her services to include grant proposal writing and editing, as well as foundation prospect research.

After earning a Bachelor’s degree from the Jackson School of International Studies at the University of Washington and her Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy degree from the Fletcher School at Tufts University, Ms. Brettschneider served as an international economist at the U.S. Treasury Department and in the U.S. Executive Director’s Office at the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Her wide breadth of international experience, including early stints as a journalist in Istanbul and a trade analyst in pre-unification West Berlin, as well as a more recent three-year posting in Stuttgart, Germany, provides unique depth of insight and perspective to her work. She is comfortable in multi-cultural settings and speaks German fluently.

Ms. Brettschneider has served a diverse assortment of clients as an independent consultant, including the IMF, The Center for Teaching International Relations at the University of Denver, FINCA International, and Counterpart International. She has done pro bono work for the Washington Global Health Alliance, Vienna Youth Soccer, Fairfax County Public Schools, and the German American Women’s Club Stuttgart.
